Kurlon Ltd. founded by late T Ramesh Pai, was incorporated under the name of Karnataka Coir Products ltd. More than half century back in October, 1962. The name of the company changed to Karnataka Consumer Products Ltd. with effect from October, 1980. It was then December, 1995 the name was changed to Kurl-on Limited to fully reflect all its business activities in diverse areas such as Rubberized Coir, Latex Foam and Polyurethane Foam. Besides mattress Kurlon Ltd. manufactures and markets an entire range of home comfort solution and wide range of high end of soft Furnishing such as pillow, cushions, bed linen, to ergonomically designed furniture, furnishing etc. Kurlon has become synonymous with mattress industry in India and being the pioneer has become household name across the length and breadth of India

  • On expansion mode, Kurl-on to add 3 plants by 2021

Furniture major Kurl-on is planning to come up with three plants one each in Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, and Anantapur by 2021. With the addition of these three plants, the total number of plants will be twelve.

“The plant in Bhubaneswar will start operations by the end of the year, followed by the Guwahati unit (2020) and Anantapur (2021),” said Ashutosh Vaidya, Chief Marketing Officer, Kurl-on.

The company will focus on Northern and Western markets as there is a lot of untapped potential there, he added. The company has units in diverse locations including Bengaluru, Gwalior, Roorkee, and near Surat. It offers two kinds of mattresses — standard and customised — out of which 43 per cent of the business is in the latter segment.

Last year, Kurl-on reported revenue of ₹1,050 crore and this year the company expects a rise of 25 per cent. “We are looking to earn a revenue of ₹1,300 crore in 2019,” he said.

The company is also a supplier to IKEA for sofas and mattresses. “Our tie-up with IKEA is for these two products and as IKEA we will also expand so it is a strategic partnership,” said Vaidya.

As part of its expansion plan, the furniture company which currently has 1,300 franchisee stores is planning to take this number to 1,500 by the end of the year. 

  • Kurl-on sees Spring (Air) in its revenue, to double to Rs 2,200 crore in 2 years

Kurl-on has acquired international mattress brand Spring Air for an undisclosed amount, the Indian mattress and home furniture brand announced in Mumbai on April 16.

“The acquisition will strengthen our presence in the premium bedding segment, besides enabling us to meet the fast-growing demand in the hospitality sector. The acquisition is in line with our aggressive expansion strategy of increasing our product portfolio and retail presence,” Sudhakar Pai, Chairman and Managing Director, Kurl-on, said.

He sees Kurl-on’s revenue doubling to Rs 2,200 crore by FY21 as a consequence of this deal, adding that the company plans to open 2,000 stores in the next few years.

The acquisition will give Kurl-on access to Spring Air’s operations across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Spring Air and Englander brand of premium mattresses will now also come under the Kurl-on umbrella.

The state government on Tuesday approved eight industrial projects worth Rs 1200 crore that would generate employment opportunities for 5,162 crore. he projects cleared by the state level single window clearance authority (SLSWA) led by chief secretary were from diverse sectors like food processing, hospitality, metal, plastic pipes and fittings among others.

  • Kurl-on to invest Rs 200 cr for expansion

Mattress brand Kurl-on plans to invest Rs 200 crore in innovation and new technology to double its product portfolio in the next two years and to consolidate the brand’s growth in home furniture and furnishings segment.

Kurl-on, which announced the launch of ‘STR8 Technology’ for its mattresses Wednesday, said it will rapidly expand the retail presence across the country to 2,000 stores by 2020.

This will be done through both multi-brand and franchise outlets as well as its two exclusive brand outlets- ‘Kurl-on Homes’ and ‘Home Komfort by Kurl-on’.

“The company aims to expand the Kurl-on Home stores from 430 at present to 1,000 in the next two years and Home Komfort to another 100 outlets,” the company said in a statement.

The retail expansion, together with the increase in product portfolio will enable Kurl-on consolidate its growth and emergence as a serious and larger home furniture and furnishings brands
